A 10-min taxi ride from Yunokami-Onsen Station takes you to the postal village Ouchijuku dating back to 1640. It was part of the Aizu Nishi Kaido trade route and provided shops, inns and restaurant for transients. Well-preserved, this village of the Edo period (1603-1868) houses traditional thatched buildings lining the main street with souvenir shops and cafe’s serving local dishes. Definitely try the Takato soba noodles eaten with a whole leek instead of chopsticks.
