Light Up Nippon, a project that aims to brings smiles back to both the areas affected by the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami and to Japan as a whole, shoots up fireworks from around a dozen locations along the tsunami-ravaged Tohoku coast at 7pm on August 11. Held annually since the year of the disaster, it expanded to Kumamoto and Hiroshima in 2016, and is looking to further extend its reach in the years to come.
