Found right next to the ‘torii’ gate of the 1,300-year-old Kanda Shrine, worshipped as the protector of Edo (the old name for Tokyo), is ‘kimono tailor’ Y. & Sons.
Specialising in kimono for men, they combine the traditional garb with modern-era accessories and work to discover and transmit the contemporary charms of the kimono.
Last summer they opened a pop-up store at Isetan Shinjuku, showcasing a yukata robe you can wear casually to the beach.
This year they’re planning to collaborate with music festivals.
