While working part time at a café, Chalk Boy was in charge of the blackboard designs showing the eatery’s changing menu, which went viral shortly after. He found his passion for handwriting, and before he even noticed, that skill turned into his job.
While he’s based in Japan, Chalk Boy travels around the world to design plenty of blackboards. In 2018, he launched the association ‘WHW! / What a Hand-written World!’, in which several artists are active. They even opened a signboard and nameplate store in Nakameguro, called ‘WHW! Kiosk’.
